A serial number list for the Savage Model Ninety-Nine can be foundin the Blue Book of Gun Values. For most other models, only a rangeof years is given. More information may be available at the. Unless you buy a gun brand new, there is a risk that the weapon may have been stolen or used in a crime. The easiest way to check a gun's history is to obtain the serial number from the body of the gun and then ask a gun professional to run a stolen weapons search.

As has been mentioned on this forum before, there is no national registry of stolen firearms to consult. You might try checking with your local Sheriff's department.

Click on the below link and run the serial number. However, you best bet if you think the firearm may be stolen is your local P.D. I'm glad they would be more than happy to assist you before a purchase through a private sale.
Better safe than sorry, unless you know the guy and document where you purchased it. Another good safeguard is to copy the sellers drivers license for your records. I always do....
Good Luck,

I use www.hotgunz.com, it doesn't replace a police s/n check but it's pretty reliable.

Do you have a question?
Run My Gun Serial Numbers
not vary. if you check it today it can have no records and appear to be good to go. and next week it could be reported stolen. your best policy is if it not from a store new from the factory. and you have questions dont by it. or you could be just paranoid.
Look Up Gun Serial Number
Get a copy of the transaction and there id. Run to the pds headquarters hand it all over and wait. I have a friend in the department so when I buy anything from an ax to my solothrum S-18/1100 I run it to him
