Free Battle mode allows you to play local matches against the computer or another player. There are four modes in Free Battle, along with a Practice and Customize Mode that allows you to tinker with the presets of characters, as well as Substitution items and Finish Cut-ins, outside of normal matches.
Versus Battle - This is the most basic of modes in Free Battle. You can fight in matches against a computer controlled opponent or with a friend locally.
Survival - This is a traditional Survival Mode that pits you against an endless number of fighters. Here you can see how many consecutive wins you can get while your health and energy bars carry over from match to match.
Tournament - In Tournament Mode, you can set up a tournament between you and up to seven other friends to see who is the best player. Tournaments can have a standard ruleset, or have constant changing special conditions for each matchup. Tournaments can have as few as 4 players at a time, or as many as 8 players at a time.
League - League battles can have up to 4 players join in on a series of matches, along with computer controlled opponents as well. You can have the rules set to a standard, ever-changing, or challenging series of matches, as well as the difficulty of computer opponents. Special conditions will occur during matches only when Ever-Changing League is selected.
